cabana-morromico.jpgOne of the original hotels in the Nuquí region of Chocó, Morromico is a charming, rustic getaway on an isolated bay about 30 minutes north of Nuquí. Morromico is the only hotel in the area and offers an unrivaled opportunity for travelers to enjoy the lush landscape and clear seas of Chocó with almost no one else around.

The hotel consists of one airy, sunny, wooden building with four bedrooms on three floors. A shared dining room on the first floor, with an impressive long wooden table for guests to congregate and enjoy fresh juice or a cold beer. There are a several hammocks around the property, including one down by the beach and another at the edge of the jungle on a small hill.

The hotel is halfway up a short hill with stunning views of Morromico beach and the surrounding mountains of Utría National Natural Park. The best room is on the third floor, with 360-degree panoramic views and a refreshing breeze. The hotel has energy 24 hours a day thanks to an ingenious hydroelectric generator powered by a small mountain stream in the woods behind the hotel.

There are several hiking paths in the dense jungle around the bay, some of which lead to the beaches and mountains of Utría National Natural Park, others which lead to nearby indigenous villages. All pass by waterfalls with natural jungle pools where travelers can swim. Morromico’s doting, quirky owners Javier and la Negra can arrange guided hikes on these trails (including an 11-hour hike that stops off at four separate communities), as well as whale-watching trips or visits to surrounding communities.

If you are sensitive to the marvels of nature, you have a soul of adventure, and you want to enjoy a respite from the daily grind of the city, this is your paradise!

Four bedrooms with capacity for 7-8 travelers in a single, open-air building overlooking the crescent-moon beach of Morromico. All rooms are private, but do not have private bathrooms.
